Cross Hatch Tester Cross Hatch Cutter Paint Adhesion Testing Paint Adhesion Test Kit 6 edges
This method is used for deter min ing the par al lel groove paint adh e sion of one or many lay ers on a sub s trate, gen er ally a metal panel. Cross Hatch Testers are avai l able in 2 dif fer ent cross cut blade ver sions, one is a multi-cut blade with 6 cutt ing edges, the other ver sion has one cutt ing edge. The Cross Cut blades are made of har d ened steel alloy and are designed for retain ing a sharp cutt ing edge to reduce the fre quency of blade replace ment.
ASTM D3359 requires 11 cut lines:
1 mm cut ter for films up to 50 µm (2 mils) thick
2 mm cut ter for films between 125 µm (2 - 5 mils) thick
ISO 2409 pre scribes that the num ber of cuts shall be 6, and that the cut in each direc tion must be accord ing to the film thick ness and type of coat ing used as shown below:
0 - 60 µm 1 mm space for hard sub s trates (metal)
0 - 60 µm 2 mm space for soft sub s trates (plas tic)
61 - 120 µm 2 mm space for hard or soft sub s trates
121 - 250 µm 3 mm space for hard or soft sub s trates
